The Scientific Council
The Scientific Council is composed of 12 eminent scientists (national and international academics, research directors, experts in various fields, representatives of ministries, universities and public health) appointed by the Board of Directors. Ten people are appointed by the founding members, one person by associate members and one person by the Director General. Members are appointed for a renewable period of four (4) years, with a third of the members appointed every two years. It is chaired by Prof. Patrice Debré, Director of the INSERM U945 Laboratory of Immunity and Infections, Professor of Immunology at UPMC, Head of the Laboratory of Cellular and Tissue Immunology at La Pitié Salpetrière. After the initial term of four (4) years and during the first renewal, one third (1/3) of the outgoing members of the Scientific Council shall be selected by drawing lots.

The Scientific Council elects from among its members a Bureau composed of a President, a Vice-President and a Secretary. The term of office is two (2) years. They are appointed on a parity basis by the Gabonese Government and the Group TOTAL. The council meets once a year, including at least once in Franceville.

The Scientific Council advises the Board of Directors on the choice of the Director General; advises the Board of Directors and General Management on science policy; participates with the General Management in recruiting and promoting researchers; evaluates research programs; advises on the CIRMF’s policy in terms of publication of research results.
