Education: Doctor of Medicine Thesis Defences 2010

Three candidates who did their internships at the CIRMF defended their theses in 2010. One of them, Roland Fabrice Kassa Kassa, was named top in his class, receiving high honours and the congratulations of the jury, and winning the Thesis Prize and the opportunity to participate in inter-university exchanges.

The CIRMF again performed its mission of mentoring and training, as the doctoral theses in medicine were defended at the University of Health Sciences (UHS), from 13 to 17 December 2010, under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of National Education, Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Spokesperson of the Government.


In all, 36 candidates passed in turn before juries composed of university professors from different countries (Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, France, Mali, Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Togo and Gabon) from Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 December 2010.

The jury deliberations took place on Thursday, December 16, 2023 in the library of the USS.

The official results announcement, presentation of provisional diploma certificates and the oath-taking ceremony took place at the Cité de la Démocratie, Friday, December 17 at 10 am in the presence of the Minister of the Budget, Public Funds and Civil Service, responsible for State Reform, Mr. Blaise Louembe, and the Delegate Minister of National Education, Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Government spokesperson, Mr. Raphael Ngazouzet, and Mr. Nziengui Mihindou, Delegate Minister of Health, Social Affairs, Solidarity and Family.

Three candidates who did their internships at the CIRMF defended their theses in 2010. These were:

- Roland Fabrice Kassa Kassa (Thesis No. 677) Title: “Exploration des syndromes fébriles au Gabon entre 2008 et 2010 : identification des virus Chikungunya et Dengue et caractérisation clinique des formes associées.” Thesis defended on Monday, December 13, 2023 in lecture hall B at 3 pm. The jury was composed of President: Dr. Mireille Prince David, Vice-President: Dr. Papa Salif Sow, Members: Dr. Dismand Houinato and Dr. Yvonne Assengone-Zeh. Director: Dr. Angela Ndjoyi Mbiguino. Dr. Eric Leroy who was co-director of the thesis was excused.

- Herve Martial Ekomy (Thesis No. 668). Title: “Etude de deux marqueurs moléculaires majeurs associés à la résistance de Plasmodium falciparum aux antipaludiques à Franceville.” Thesis defended Tuesday, December 14, 2023 at 8:30 am in lecture hall A, before a jury composed of President: Dr. Peter G. Kremsner, Vice-President: Dr. Ogobara K. Doumbo, Members: Dr. Guélaye Sall and Dr. Simon Jonas Ategbo. Director: Dr. Maryvonne Kombila, Co-director: Dr. Jean-Bernard Lekana-Douki.

- Lawrence Irwin Makosso (Thesis No. 680). Title: “Identification et prévalence des papillomavirus humains à Franceville (Gabon) : à propos de six génotypes oncogènes.” Thesis defended Tuesday, December 14, 2023 at 3 pm. The jury consisted of President: Dr. Laurent Belec, Vice-President: Dr. Mireille Prince David, Members: Dr. Leon Hervé Ilok and Jean-François Meye, Director: Dr. Angela Ndjoyi Mbiguino. In the absence of Dr. Mirdad Kazanji, Dr. Francis Rouet sat in on the jury as Co-Director.

At the announcement of the results, Mr. Roland Fabrice Kassa Kassa was named top in his class, receiving high honours and the congratulations of the jury and was proposed for the Thesis Prize. Mr. Herve Martial Ekomy earned high honours and the congratulations of the jury, and was awarded the Thesis Prize and a proposal for inter-university exchanges. Mr. Lawrence Irwin Makosso also received high honours and the congratulations of the jury.

The CIRMF participates in the training of physicians who will serve the health care system in Gabon, where there is still a strong demand!
